The royalty on mining production proposed by Chile’s government to the Congress will not only affect copper miners, but also cement manufacturers since production costs will go up. The government of Chile plans to tax mining companies by 1% of their net annual sales. Specialists say that the measure will affect competitiveness on the domestic market since imported cement may be sold at lower prices compared to the national product.
