FLS wins contract for 1Mta cement production line in Syria
14 November 2003

FL Smidth has been awarded a 20m euro contract to supply all main mechanical production equipment for a new cement production line in Syria. The equipment will be delivered during the next 18 months, and the production line is expected to come on stream in the second half of 2005. Built by state-owned Iranian company, Ehdasse Sanat Corporation (ECS), the production line will have a 1Mt annual capacity and will be constructed on a turnkey basis in the Hama area in central Syria.

The scope of the contract includes a vertical mill, a preheater, a calciner, a kiln, a clinker cooler and two cement mills including gearboxes to be supplied by the subsidiary MAAG Gear and raw material crushers and raw material stores to be supplied by the subsidiary FL Smidth Materials Handling.

Syria’s state-owned cement industry is currently expanding and modernising the country’s cement plants in line with a five-year development plan, running until 2008. An increase in cement production from 5Mta to 8Mta is expected in the near future (see ICR October 2003 for full report).
