BUA’s new 3Mta cement plant, currently under construction in Edo State, Nigeria, is on track for completion in early 2014, according to the group’s chairman.

Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, told reporters at a signing with Siemens to build a new gas turbine power plant for the factory, that the company is impressed with the current progress of the overall project.

"I am particularly very impressed so far by the civil construction work done by [Nigerian contractor] Julius Berger. 70 per cent of the cement plant equipment have been shipped and are currently on site and the pace of work by Julius Berger is very comprehensive and impressive. By early 2014, the cement factory will be ready for use," All Africa press reported Mr Rabiu as saying.

BUA owns 100 per cent of Edo Cement. The plant is located a 100km from Benin City in the central region. FLSmidth was awarded the contract for equipment supplies, engineering, supervision and training. The scope of equipment supplies includes EV crushers for raw material preparation, an ATOX 50 mill for raw meal grinding, a pyro system consisting of a five-stage In-Line Calciner preheater, a two-base kiln, UMS mills for cement grinding and four packing plants as well as FLSmidth's latest design Cross-Bar 16x50 clinker cooler.

The BUA group also has a 51 per cent share in the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN), which owns a cement plant near Sokoto in the northwest..
