PPC and subsidiaries record double-digit growth in July

PPC reports that its total volumes at its international subsidiaries saw double-digit growth in July compared to sales in July 2019. Since Egypt's Ministry of Local Development (MLD) suspended building licences for six months in the governorates of Greater Cairo (Cairo-Giza-Qalyubia), Alexandria, and provincial capitals and major cities with high population densities in May, cement demand has dropped by 20 per cent. Dangote Cement reported group revenue up two per cent to NGN476.9bn (US$1.23bn) in the 1H20. Group EBITDA rose to NGN218.1bn and pan-African EBITDA increased by 31.6 per cent to NGN31.5bn. Egyptian cement exports declined by roughly 32 per cent during the first five months of 2020 to US$47m, compared to US$68m during the same period in 2019.
