A new 1.7Mta cement plant is expected to come online on Friday in Battambang province, according to Cambodian Mines and Energy Minister, Suy Sem. Cambodia is in the middle of a cement capacity expansion programme, but a state official has announced that the country's government will not offer more than the five cement production licences for the plants that will be operational by the end of the year. Battambang Conch Cement, a joint venture between Cambodia’s Battambang KT Cement and Conch International Holdings, is set to begin operations of its 1.8Mta cement plant in Battambang province at the end of the year. “The official commission of the plant will be in December,”  the Khmer Times (Cambodia) quoted Sie Mengnang, an administrative officer in Battambang Conch Cement, as saying. “Currently about 70 per cent of construction has been completed,” he added.
