The Brazilian cement market expanded by three per cent YoY to 4.761Mt in May 2020, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Between January-May, dispatches slipped 0.3 per cent YoY to 21,683Mt. The volume of sales per working day was 211,600t, up 9.7 per cent when compared with May 2019 and by 13.7 per cent when compared with April 2019. Votorantim Cimentos' financial statement for the period ended 31 March 2020 reported net revenue up nine per cent to BRL2747m (US$494.6m) from BRL2524m in the 1Q19, while adjusted EBITDA fell to BRL232m from BRL586m in the 1Q19. Following a good first half to the month, Brazilian cement consumption saw a sharp decline in the second half of March, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. The fall was attributed to the circulation restrictions and a reduction in the pace of works as public transport, trades and support services near the buildings were limited. Moody's changes outlook for Votorantim Cimentos

The outlook for Brazil’s Votorantim Cimentos has been downgraded from positive to negative by Moody’s Investors Service. However, the Ba1 rating for the company has been affirmed.  The credit ratings agency has also downgraded the outlook for Votorantim Cimentos’ subsidiary St Marys Cement to negative from positive.

Aumund names new MD of Brazilian subsidiary

Aumund has named Paulo Lima as the new managing director of its Brazilian subsidiary, based in São Paulo. Paulo Lima has already had a successful career in mechanical engineering, in particular in conveying technology, with experience in sectors such as cement, mining and minerals, according to the company. Mr Lima has also held leading sales positions at the subsidiary in São Paulo from 1996-2000 and 2004-08.

Votorantim Cimentos to install distribution centre in Uberaba

Brazil-based Votorantim Cimentos has announced plans to build a distribution centre in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The new centre will have storage space of 2000m2 and will serve the Uberaba region and a radius of 100km. The unit is expected to be operational in the 2H20 and provide improved and faster services for the region’s customers.

Cement sales in Brazil remained stable at 4.1Mt in February 2020 when compared with February 2019, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Masaveu has doubled its export shipments to the USA from its Tudela Veguín plant in Spain in 2019. The US is now the third-largest market for the cement producer, representing an export volume of 118,673t in 2019, compared to 50,061t in the previous year. The exports to the US account for 18.3 per cent of the company’s total exports. Cement sales in Brazil slipped 0.9 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt in January 2020, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Apparent cement consumption, which includes imports and domestic sales, totalled 4.5Mt, representing a 1.3 per cent decline when compared with January 2019. SNIC attributes the marginal drop to poor performance in the north, where sales contracted 4.8 per cent YoY, and the south, which saw a 3.2 per cent fall.
