Caribbean Cement reports drop in 2Q profit

Jamaica-based Caribbean Cement posted operating profit of US$28.2m in the 1H22, representing a two per cent drop YoY from US$28.8m. Net profit also slipped by two per cent YoY to US$19.7m, despite a 10 per cent increase YoY in sales to US$85.5m in the 2Q22. The drop in earnings was attributed to increased operational expenses during a downturn in the global economy.

Bedeschi increases Domicem's reclaiming capacity

Bedeschi has been awarded the complete revamping project to be managed by Domicem ( Colacem group ) for the limestone reclaiming system located at the San Cristobal plant, Dominican Republic. 

 The original stacking and reclaiming equipment, installed by Bedeschi in 2004, allows clay and limestone handling at the plant. Caribbean Cement Co Ltd in Jamaica has reported a flat profit for its 1Q22 but views the future with optimism. In 2021 cement producers in the Dominican Republic manufactured 6.5Mt of cement, supplying a construction industry that saw 23.4 per cent growth as the country started its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Following shareholder approval Caribbean CementCo Ltd will pay two per cent royalties to its parent company Cemex from January 2022. Caribbean Cement to burn waste tyres

The Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) had signed an agreement for CCCL to use tyres from the Riverton City landfill in Kingston, to help fire its kilns for the manufacture of Portland cement. There are more than 2m tyres at Riverton to dispose of. There are also more at other landfills across the island. The project will reduce Caribbean Cement’s carbon emissions.
