Chile’s cement demand increases 12% in March

Chilean cement consumption saw a 12 per cent YoY hike to 385,276t in March 2021 when compared with March 2020, when demand reached 344,098t, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). When compared with February 2021, consumption edged up by 9.5 per cent. In the first quarter of 2021 demand was up 7.5 per cent to 1.083Mt, compared with 1.008Mt in the 1Q20, which had seen a 6.7 per cent drop vs 1Q19.

Cement deliveries in Chile increased by six per cent to 351,735t in February 2021 when compared with February 2020 when 331,905t were dispatched, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. When compared with January 2021 the increase was 1.5 per cent from 346,463t.

Cemento Melón expects to bring online Punta Arenas plant by June

Chile-based Cemento Melón expects to see its new US$30m Punta Arenas grinding plant to be commissioned by June 2021, reports La Prensa Austral. Chile-based Cemento Mélon has signed a contract with Enel Generación for the supply of clean and renewable energy in four of Mélon’s operations: the La Calera, Ventanas and Puerto Montt cement plants and the San Bernardo aggregates facility. Chile’s cement dispatches down 7% in 2020

Chilean cement deliveries increased by 14 per cent YoY to 389,488t in November 2020 from 341,721t in the equivalent month in 2019. This was followed by a 7.7 per cent uptick in December 2020 when dispatches rose to 364,925t from 338,720t in December 2019, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. Capeco, the Peruvian construction chamber, reported that the average retail price for grey cement in Peru is around US$6.22 per 42.5kg bag – one of the lowest in Latin America.
