Dem Rep Congo: cement price falls 15% in Kinshasa

The price of a bag of grey cement in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, has fallen from CDF12,500 (US$13.54) at the start of the year to CDF10,500 at the end of February, representing a fall of 15 per cent. The decrease in price has been attributed to the supply of Chinese cement imports.

The price of a bag of cement in Matadi, Dem Rep Congo has fallen by 35 per cent from CDF12,500 (US$13.44) to CDF8000. The price decrease follows the arrival of imports from Angola in the Congolese port town. In addition, Chinese imports have also increased the supply of cement to the Matadi market.

Dem Rep Congo: cement price notes 10.6% drop in Kinshasa

The price of cement in the Kinshasa market experienced a -10.6 per cent fall. The price of a 50kg bag fell from CDF12,300 (US$13.34) to CDF11,000. The price fall is due to a combination of factors including the low activity on building sites, particularly following Christmas and New Year as well as a scarcity of bank notes in circulation. Normal sales of cement reach around 50-100 bags per day.
