Local cement sales in the Dominican Republic increased 5.1 per cent in the first six months of 2018 to 2,196,282t from 2,089,935t in 6M17, according to the country’s cement association, Adocem. Dominican cement producers saw a 3.7 per cent fall in domestic sales and a five per cent decline in exports in the January-February 2018 period, according to the President of the Dominican Association of Cement Producers (Adocem), Rayza J Rodriguez. In the first half of 2017 cement production in the Dominican Republic reached 2,612,099t, according to data released by the Dominican Central Bank. From January to June of this year, domestic sales volumes increased by 5.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2016 while cement exports accounted for nearly 18 per cent of production, exceeding US$654.8m, more than US$58.6m, in the 1H16. Cement consumption in the Dominican Republic fell by two per cent to 2,089,935t in the first half of 2017, according to the country’s cement association, Adocem. In 1H16 demand reached 2,132,312t. Local cement sales increased 5.5 per cent in value to RDS8.516bn. Output rose 0.5 per cent from 2,599,031t in 1H16 to 2,612,099t in 1H17. Between April and June, around 17.6 per cent of production was exported.
