Lafarge Malaysia Bhd is optimistic about its prospects this year despite having had a challenging 1Q16. Lafarge Malaysia Bhd reported a pretax profit of MYR345.157m (US$82.86m) for the financial year ended 31 December 2015 versus MYR345.183m a year earlier. Lafarge Malaysia Bhd has bought Holcim (M) Sdn Bhd from PT Holcim Indonesia in a deal worth MYR325.5m (US$75.5m). Lafarge Malaysia Bhd, the country's largest cement manufacturer, recorded a 28.9 per cent increase in net profit to MYR70.65m (US$16.30m) for the third quarter ended 30 September 2015 from MYR54.81m, mainly due to higher sales from the cement segment, improved plant performance, and higher foreign exchange (forex) gains. Lafarge Malaysia Bhd's net profit for the third quarter ended 30 Sept 2013 rose 24.7 per cent to MYR120.2m (US$37.7m) from MYR96.4m a year ago. Its revenue climbed 2.7 per cent YoY to MYR728m compared with MYR708.8m earlier. Earnings per share stood at 14.2 sen from 11.3 sen last year.
