Holcim Brazil asset sale expected

LafargeHolcim (Holcim group) is understood to be considering the sale of its assets in Brazil and CSN Cimentos, Cimentos Mizu and Cement Apodi (Titan Cement joint venture) are believed to be among the potential bidders. Ambuja Cements plans 1.5Mta Ropar expansion

India’s Ambuja Cements has announced plans to expand capacity at its Ropar plant in Punjab over the next two years, representing an investment of INR3.1bn (US$41.68m). Members of Extinction Rebellion protested at LafargeHolcim’s ready-mix concrete operations in Paris, last week, denouncing what they called the firm's environmentally damaging pursuit of profit. Cameroon’s Minister of Commerce threatens to shut down Cimencam plant

Cameroon’s Minister of Commerce, Luc Mbarga Atangana has informed LafargeHolcim’s Cameroon subsidiary Cimencam it will shut down the cement plant if it proceeds to increase its prices unilaterally.   If the price increase goes ahead, Mr Mbarga Atangana has said that he will see himself “in the obligation to order the installation of seals on your installations.” Cement is a product that is subject to the preliminary price approval procedure.

LafargeHolcim subsidiary Holcim México saw the commissioning of its new 0.65Mta grinding plant in Umán, Yucatán. LafargeHolcim’s Carboneras plant in Almeria, Spain, increased its use of alternative fuels by 34 per cent YoY to 80,900t in 2020. Lafarge Cement sees record sales in 2020

Despite the coronavirus pandemic  in 2020 Czech-based producer Lafarge Cement reported a nine per cent YoY rise in sales to CZK1.55bn (US$72.1m) and pretax profit went up by 60 per cent to CZK555m. This represents the best income figure in its history, said Miroslav Kratochvil, who leads the LafargeHolcim subsidiary. The pandemic saw higher staff and operational cost.
