Saudi monthly cement sales up 17% YoY

Saudi Arabian cement sales in December 2014 rose 17 per cent YoY to 5.59Mt from 4.79Mt in the same month of the year before, latest statistics published by domestic producer Yamama Cement Co reveal. Saudi Arabia's cement sales rose 39 per cent YoY to 5.09Mt in November 2014 from 3.65Mt in November 2013, according to statistics published by Saudi cement producer Yamama Cement Co. Of the total, domestic sales accounted for 5.03Mt, up 40 per cent YoY. Exports stood at 60,000t, up from 50,000t. Saudi: City Cement Co invest in alternative energy project

City Cement Co intends to invest SAR25m (US$6.7m) in an alternative energy project, the Saudi-based producer said in a bourse statement yesterday. The project, anticipated to be completed by the end of the first half of 2015, will be carried out by Chinese engineering company Sinoma. Kuwait Portland Cement’s net profit increased by 32 per cent in the first nine months of the year to KWD8.64m (US$29.7m) from KWD6.57m a year earlier, the cement trader said in a bourse statement yesterday. Kuwait-based cement producer Hilal Cement Co widened its third-quarter net loss to KWD204,435 (US$704,706) from KWD17,250 during the same period of the year before. Saudi-based Yanbu Cement net earnings grew by 16.43 per cent YoY in the third quarter of 2014 to SAR163m, but declined by 32.37 per cent compared to 2Q14. Iraq has agreed to increase the volume of cement exports from Iran, a senior trade official has said. "As of September 1, each (Iranian) company can export 15,000t of cement into the neighbouring country from Shalamcheh, Chazzabeh and Mehran border terminals," Jahanbakhsh Sanjabi Shirazi, the head of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce, told Fars News Agency, as quoted by Zawya news. Iran exports exceed 8Mt in first five months

Iran exported over 8Mt of cement in the first five months of the Iranian calendar year, according to the country's cement industry body. Abdolreza Sheikhan, secretary of Iran's Cement Industry Employers Association said 981,605t of cement were exported in the fifth calendar month (July 23-August 22), Iran's IRIB reported on Sunday. The country has also successfully started to use railroads to export cement to neighbouring and Central Asian countries.
