Cement producer PT Semen Indonesia received a profit decline in 9M19 on the back of surging finance costs. Although Semen Indonesia earned IDR1.3trn (US$92.85m) in net profit from January to September, the profit was a 38 per cent down from 9M18 due to increasing finance costs, which jumped 235.33 per cent YoY. Semen Indonesia Group and PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia (SBI) have posted sales of 3.095Mt in February 2019, a significant increase of 47 per cent YoY when compared with a sales volume of 2.106Mt noted in February 2018. PT Semen Indonesia increased revenues by 10.3 per cent YoY to IDR30.688trn in 2018 from IDR27,814trn in 2017. The company’s consolidated sales volume reached 33.153Mt, including the sales from Thang Long Cement in Vietnam. Holcim Indonesia has changed its name to PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia (Solution to Build Indonesia) following its takeover by PT Semen Indonesia. This week, LafargeHolcim agreed that PT Semen Indonesia (SMGR) was the successful bidder to buy its 80.6 per cent shareholding in PT Holcim Indonesia at a cost of US$917m. PT Semen Indonesia reports its cement sales in August 2018 amounted to 20.67Mt, a rise of four per cent compared to 19.88Mt in August 2017. PT Semen Indonesia says it has fulfilled all of its operational requirements at its 3.3Mta Rembang cement plant, Central Java, since last March despite a series of protests by locals over environmental issues.
