New waste treatment plant to supply RDF in UAE

The construction of a solid waste treatment plant in Umm Al Qaiwain, UAE, is nearing completion. One operational, the facility will process waste from the nearby region and supply RDF to cement plants. The AED132m (US$36m) unit is expected to process 1500t of waste every day to produce 300,000tpa of alternative fuel, according to Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment. The plant is expected to begin operations in the final quarter of 2020.

UltraTech facility begins receiving dry waste for RDF use

India’s UltraTech Cement has begun receiving dry waste at its unit in Jaggayyapet, Andhra Pradesh, sent from Vijayawada Municipal Corp’s (VMC) recycling facility in Ajit Singh Nagar. Construction starts this month on the Emirates refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facility, which is being built in Umm Al Quwain, UAE. The project is a joint venture consisting of UAE based contractors Besix and TG Eco Holding together with Finland-based Griffin Refineries. Detailed guidelines recently finalised for India’s Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 will see cement factories within 400km of RDF plants have to ensure that the material constitutes at least five per cent of their fuel supply.
