PPC Zimbabwe achieves record cement volumes

PPC has recorded the highest production volumes in Zimbabwe for the first time in 18 years following the opening of its new US$82m grinding plant in Harare. The group's interim CEO, Johan Claassen, said Zimbabwe operations continue to exceed expectations, with the investment in the 1.8Mta Harare mill contributing to volume growth. Rwanda’s sole producer of cement, CIMERWA, on Friday introduced its bulk cement offering whic  will see customers receive cement directly at their construction sites without the use of bagged cement. FLSmidth signs cement grinding plant contract in Rwanda

FLSmidth confirmed it has signed a contract with Prime Cement Ltd for engineering, procurement and supply of equipment for a full-scope cement grinding plant with a capacity of 700,000tpa. The plant will be located in Musanze, Rwanda. Cement industry newcomer, Prime Cement, plans to construct a US$65m plant in Musanze District, Northern Province, Rwanda. Improved cement sales in South Africa and growing volumes in Rwanda resulted in PPC reporting a 13 per cent increase in group cement sales in the six months ending 30 September 2016, compared to the previous six months. Cement dealers and property developers in Rwanda's capital, Kigali, have called on Cimerwa to cut its prices, Rwanda Focus reports. PPC reported a nine per cent YoY rise in quarterly sales revenue, commenting that sales revenue in South Africa increased two per cent and volumes by at least nine per cent in the company's 3QFY15-16.
