Hima Cement is set to invest US$40m in a new plant in Tororo with a view to raising its output to 1.8Mta. The company's CEO, Daniel Pettersson, said the decision was a step to address the rising demand in east Africa. Uganda’s largest cement manufacturer has earmarked UGX86bn (US$25m) towards the plant expansion. Kuwait investors to build cement plant in Budaka, Uganda

President Museveni broke ground for the construction of a cement plant in Daka village, Budaka District, Uganda. The new 5000tpd factory will be constructed by the Dao Group of Kuwait and is expected to be twice the size of the Hima Cement Factory in Kasese. Presently, Uganda counts two cement plants, operated by Tororo Cement and Lafarge-owned Hima Cement, resulting in a national installed capacity of 1.9Mta.
