Lafarge Cement appoints new Cookstown plant manager

Lafarge Cement (Aggregate Industries) has appointed John Mulgrew as the new plant manager of its renowned Cookstown cement plant in Northern Ireland. Mr Mulgrew succeeds Russell Larmour who, after nearly 40 years with the company, will be retiring. He will report to Barry Hope, executive committee director of cement at Aggregate Industries. Cementos Cosmos to burn tyres at Toral de los Vados

The Toral de los Vados cement works, operated by Cementos Cosmos, will be able to use waste tyres as alternative fuel following the granting of an Integrated Environmental Authorisation. Fire at Mannersdorf cement works

A fire broke out at Lafarge Zementwerke’s Mannersdorf cement plant in Austria at around 19h on Sunday, 7 June 2020. According to the company, the starting point was the fuel store and the fire spread to a conveyor system. However, the cause of the fire is not yet known. HeidelbergCement held its 131st Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday with around 1000 people following the live transmission on the Internet. Prior to the AGM shareholders submitted a record 120 questions (previous year: 36 questions). Report calls for co-processing of wind turbine blades to be scaled up

The cement sector's cooperation is expected to be required to ease the challenge of recycling decommissioned wind turbines, according to a new report from WindEurope, the European Chemical Industry Council and the European Composites Industry Association. Cement consumption in Spain hits record low in April

Spain saw cement consumption down 50 per cent YoY in April 2020 to less than 0.6Mt, according to the country’s cement association, Oficemen. The decline in demand has been attributed to the suspension of non-essential works between 30 March and 9 April. Swiss cement deliveries stable in 1Q20

Cement deliveries in Switzerland including Liechtenstein remained largely stable in the 1Q20 at 872,104t, just slightly down from 874,275t reported in 1Q19, according to Cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association.
