Vietnam: export volumes down 8.4% in 10M16

Russia’s cement consumption and output noted a nine per cent fall in the third quarter of 2016 when compared with the same period a year ago. North Korea: cement production rises in response to flooding

North Korean state media have reported that workers at the Sangwon cement plant have increased production by 50 per cent as part of efforts to send aid to the flood-stricken north of the country. The plant has sent over 70,000 tonnes of cement to North Hamgyong Province to help it recover from the floods. The increased output has enabled Sangwon to supply several thousand tonnes of cement a day.

Sales of cement by Saudi Arabian companies declined by 9.93 per cent YoY in August, while production dropped by 10.4 per cent, Mubasher reports. Cement prices in northern India have risen by around 25 per cent YoY in the period April-July 2016, driven by rising demand, according to the Economic Times. Demand for cement in Malaysia looks set to grow but slowly in 2016 as production numbers for the first half of the year indicate. Uzbekistan: Akhangarancement output up 5.3% in 1H2016

Akhangarancement has announced that its cement output rose by 5.3 per cent YoY to 918,800t in the first half of 2016, according to reports from the Trend news agency. Sales also rose by a similar amount, reaching 920,825t in 1H2016 – an increase of 5.1 per cent – while clinker output grew more quickly, rising by 11.7 per cent to 662,295t. In addition to producing for the domestic market, Akhangarancement exports to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.

Peru cement market contracts 3.5% YoY in June

In June, Peruvian cement demand fell by 3.5 per cent YoY to 0.756Mt from 0.781Mt, according to Asocem, the country's cement association. Cement production in Panama fell 6.1 per cent in the last 12 months ending May 2016, when the country’s cement plants produced 812,616t, according to the General Controller of the Republic of Panama. In the corresponding period ending May 2015, output reached 864,570t. The decline has been attributed to the malaise in the country’s construction sector.
