Vietnam cement sales surge 58% in February

Total cement sales in Vietnam reached 4.207Mt in February 2020, up 58 per cent YoY and 47 per cent MoM, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). The total includes 1.383Mt delivered by VICEM, representing an increase of 48 per cent YoY and 53 per cent MoM. Cement demand in Spain slipped 0.5 per cent YoY to 1,171,084t in February 2020, according to Oficemen, the country’s cement association. Cement sales in Brazil remained stable at 4.1Mt in February 2020 when compared with February 2019, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Cement consumption in Russia increased eight per cent to 57.8Mt in 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Soyuzcement. Exports by Russian producers expanded by 9.6 per cent YoY to 1.1Mt in 2019 on the back of rising volumes to export markets, which include Azerbaijan, the Baltic states, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Cement sales in Puerto Rico declined 20.4 per cent YoY to 36,255t. The drop in demand was attributed to falling levels of construction after Hurricane Maria as government funds and insurance payment finish, according to Sin Comillas. Cement production in January dropped 17.1 per cent to 35,176t, the first reduction in three months. In 2018 full-year output declined 6.7 per cent YoY to 524,443t.

Cement dispatches in Chile slipped two per cent YoY in January 2020. Deliveries fell to 331,783t in the first month of the year from 350,122t in January 2019, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. Dispatches in 2019 rose 2.2 per cent YoY to 4,081,896t when compared with 3,992,501t in 2018.

Demand for cement in Vietnam in January 2020 saw a 37 per cent YoY decline to 2,879,347t, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Peru’s cement market expanded 2.1 per cent YoY to 946,000t in January 2020 from 927,000 in the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem.
