Brazil cement market expands 8% in July

Brazilian cement sales increased 8.1 per cent YoY to 4.953Mt in July 2019, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. The market expanded most in the south, advancing by 11.2 per cent to 827,000t, followed by the central-west by 10.9 per cent to 579,000t. Argentine cement demand up 5% in July

Total cement consumption in Argentina in July 2019 increased 5.1 per cent YoY to 1,000,711t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The market requirement was entirely supplied by domestic plants, unlike in July 2018 when 2540t of cement was imported. Domestic dispatches in Colombia advanced by 3.8 per cent from 0.943Mt in June 2018 to 0.979Mt in June 2019, according to DANE, the country’s statistics office. Bolívar and Meta saw deliveries rise by 31-32 per cent YoY, while Valle del Cauca’s market expanded by 25.1 per cent. Vietnamese cement companies sold 7.497Mt of cement in June 2019, down four per cent YoY and 12 per cent MoM, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico fell to 9.3Mt in May 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The leading consuming states were  Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia , which combined account for 39 per cent of shipments in May. Cement dispatches in Chile slipped 0.9 per cent MoM to 345,001t in May 2019, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). However, this represents a YoY increase of 6.4 per cent to 324,236t.  In the first five months of 2019, total dispatches increased 7.9 per cent to 1.773Mt when compared with 5M18 when dispatches were 1.643Mt.

The Peruvian cement market expanded by 4.1 per cent YoY to 0.914Mt in June, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. However, MoM demand fell by 4.8 per cent.
