Pakistan's State Bank notes export growth in 1HFY23-24

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has reported that the country’s cement sector shows significant export growth during the 1HFY23-24. Cement production saw a modest rise of 1.9 per cent during 1HFY23-24, largely attributed to the increased export volume. This was further bolstered by a surge in domestic sales in the last few months. Italian cement output continues to expand, rising 10 per cent YoY in February 2024, according to the latest data from Italian concrete association, Federbeton. Saudi Arabian cement sales increased by 12.5 per cent YoY in April 2024 but fell 18.4 per cent compared to the previous month. According to Aljazira Capital, domestic cement dispatches in April stood at 2.92Mt, compared to 2.6Mt in the same month in the previous year, due to the base month having 11 extra days of Ramadan. Bangladesh’s cement industry has witnessed substantial growth in its exports. It saw a 48.7 per cent YoY growth in cement export revenue, generating US$15.94m during the first 10 months of FY23-24. Cherat Cement (CHCC) reported net profit after tax (NPAT) of PKR1.2bn (US$4.32m) in 3QFY23-24, down 33 per cent QoQ and flat sequentially. This brings the 9MFY23-24 NPAT to PKR4.6bn, up 12 per cent YoY. Earnings per share reached PKR6.40 in the 3QFY23-24 and PKR23.90 in hte 9MFY23-24. Pakistan’s cement industry’s total cement dispatches during April 2024 were 2.94Mt, compared to 2.95Mt in April 2023. This comprises local cement at 2.33Mt against 2.53Mt in April 2023, showing a decline of 7.99 per cent. Cement sales in Vietnam continue to struggle versus their year-ago levels. Sales were down 17 per cent YoY to 5.113Mt in March 2024, from 6.161Mt a year earlier, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement sales in Indonesia amounted to 65.501Mt in 2023. This is an increase of 3.4 per cent YoY compared to the 63.346Mt reported in 2022. Regional sales were a mixed bag, with over a third recording sale contractions.
