Egypt’s Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade Eng Hatem Saleh has said that the ministry is considering imposing a levy on cement exports as a result of increases in cement prices on the local market. Pakistan sales increased 3.2 per cent over the first eight months over the current fiscal, according to initial data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Pakistan exports during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (FY12-13) fell 0.52 per cent to 5.076Mt, according to data released by Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics. Cement producers in Vietnam sold 3.6Mt to the domestic market in January, down 16.28 per cent from the month before due to a stagnant real estate market. Pakistan’s domestic consumption continues to uphold sales with latest industry data for January show another decline in exports. According to data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, domestic cement sales jumped by 10.10 per cent to 2.135Mt in January 2013. Pakistan cement exporters have registered almost a 30 per cent YoY rise in cement export volumes in the first six months of the current fiscal. However, the amount of deliveries to neighbouring India continue to disappoint. Total shipments (domestic and exports) from Argentine cement producers fell 7.8 per cent YoY, according to the latest update from the Asociacion de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland (AFCP). Total cement sales in Vietnam (domestic plus exports) in 2012 fell 3.5 per cent YoY to 54Mt. A recent update by the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA) shows domestic sales were down 7.71 per cent YoY to 45.5Mt during the year as a frozen real estate market hurt local demand.
