PT Semen Indonesia Tbk and PT Samana Citra Agung on 17 March signed agreement to set up a joint venture company, called PT Semen Indonesia Aceh, which will engage in producing and distributing cement. Pakistan producer DG Khan Cement has reported that its southern expansion project is progressing well and is scheduled for commissioning in 2QFY18. Orascom wins greenfield contract in Algeria

Orascom Construction has been awarded the contract for a greenfield cement plant in Algeria. The new 6000tpd plant is for a private sector client and comprises infrastructure work for an industrial complex, Orascom said in a statement. The combined value of both contracts is US$180m.

Approval granted for new Quang Nam plant, Vietnam

ThaiGroup JSC has received approval from the Peoples’ Committee of Quang Nam province in Vietnam's central region to develop the second cement plant in the area. The BUA Group of Nigeria in talks with China’s Sinoma to build two cement plants in east Africa and a steel plant in Nigeria for US$1.9bn, according to a report by Reuters.
