Commanding almost a 50 per cent share of the Mexican cement market, Cemex knows only too well the challenges facing the country’s cement producers. Juan Romero, president of Cemex Mexico, talks to ICR about the impact of the US economy, uncertainty surrounding the domestic construction sector, the use of alternative fuels and the steps the company is taking to maintain its leading position in the Mexican market.

ICR: How long have you worked for Cemex, what is your background in the industry and what is it like being president of such a large Mexican company?

Juan Romero (JR): I joined CEMEX 24 years ago. During my career, I have had the privilege of leading our operations in Mexico, Colombia, South America & Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

It is an honour for me to be president of our Mexican operations, working together with the best team in the industry, with the strongest commitment to satisfying client’s needs. In Mexico, we are particularly proud of how CEMEX has achieved a broad, positive impact, benefitting the communities in which we operate.
