Carbolite Gero GmbH & Co KG

Hall 1, Stand 552
Web: www.carbolite-gero.com
Product: Rotating Horizontal Split Tube Furnace (RHZS)

Cabolite Gero will show its new Rotating Horizontal Split Tube Furnace (RHZS). Rotating tube furnaces are used for continuous heat treatment of small sample volumes (approximately 1l to 10l) of powders or granulates, also under inert gas (eg calcinations). Carbolite's new 3 zone split tube furnace RHZS has a maximum operating temperature of 1150°C and is based on the reliable model HZS 12/900. The three heating zones have an overall heating length of 900mm. The furnace frame can be easily adjusted between horizontal and approximately 10° of incline. Variable tilt and rotation speeds result in highly flexible residence times. Wire elements in high-quality vacuum formed insulation ensure fast heat up, excellent temperature uniformity and short cool down times. The work tube is easily removed by opening this split tube furnace, which also allows easy access, eg for cleaning. A safety switch automatically stops the tube from rotating and interrupts the power supply for the heating elements.

The sample is automatically fed into the rotating tube via a RETSCH vibratory feeder and recovered in a five litre collecting vessel after the heat treatment process is finished.

Freeman Technology – Powder Flow Solutions

Now part of the Micromeritics Instrument Corporation, Freeman Technology will showcase its material characterisation solutions designed to optimise process performance, increase productivity and improve quality in a diverse range of sectors.

The Freeman Technology portfolio includes the FT4 Powder Rheometer®, a comprehensive powder tester, which employs patented dynamic methodologies, automated shear cells (in accordance with ASTM D7891) and a series of bulk property tests to quantify powder behaviour in terms of flow and processability. This is complemented by the Uniaxial Powder Tester, which provides accurate and repeatable measurements of the uniaxial unconfined yield strength (uUYS) of powders to assess and rank flowability.

The company also offers in-line, real-time flow measurement capabilities via an exclusive partnership with Lenterra Inc, manufacturers of optical flow sensor technology.

Freeman Technology presentations
There will also be an opportunity to hear about recent Freeman Technology research, via the following presentations at the co-located conference, Partec:

• In-line measurement of mixed state systems using a drag force flow sensor
• Assessing the influence of elevated temperature on the flowability of powders
• Understanding and measuring triboelectric behaviour of powders
• The application ofpowder Rheology to assess Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) performance
• Magnetically Assisted Impaction Coating (MAIC) for blending optimising.

HORIBA Partikelmesstechnik /RETSCH Technology GmbH

Product: LA-350 analyser, LA-960 particle analyser, PCS Spectrometer Horiba SZ-100

RETSCH Technology presents the new laser diffraction particle analyser HORIBA LA-350 – the advanced and optimised successor of the LA-300 analyser. Based on the innovatively designed optical system the LA-350 still has a very small footprint. The dispersion system for the measurement of suspensions and emulsions, including a strong ultrasonic probe, and the optical system are designed as one unit. Thanks to its compact size the analyser can be easily transported to different locations.

Detectors, sample dispersion system and software of the LA-350 have been optimised. The number and arrangement of the detectors allows for reliable measuring results in a size range from 0.1 to 1000m. This is more than most laser diffraction analysers with larger optical systems and modular design have to offer, says HORIBA. The LA-350 provides a perfect combination of excellent measurement results, easy operation, compact size and attractive price.

The LA-960 operates on the basis of static laser light scattering (accodrding to ISO 13320) and was developed as a solution to customer requirements for a high-performance, flexible, and easy to use instrument for a wide variety of applications – from particle charactarisation of powders and granules to the measuring of suspensions and emulsions.

The new, compact nano particle analyser HORIBA SZ-100 is designed for particle size measurement down to the nano range as well as for the determination of zeta potential and molecular weight.

The HORIBA SZ-100 measures ultrafine particles down to the nanometer range in extremely low as well as in extremely high sample concentrations. This newly developed analyser is used in the fields of bio and nano technology (eg nano ceramics, nano metals) and for protein analyses. The HORIBA SZ-100 provides the best measurement results and features a wide measurement range from 0.3nm to 8µm, claims HORIBA. Therefore, the instrument not only meets the requirements of modern laboratories but also the quality control needs at production facilities.

TTD classifier head

TTD classifier head

Hosokawa Alpine, a leading provider in the fields of process technology and film extrusion, will exhibit the TTD classifier head for the ultrafine classification of different soft to medium-hard materials. The TTD classifier head was designed especially for the classification of industrial fillers as well as materials such as limestone, marble or chalk. The classifiers are operated either in circuit with ball mills or as stand-alone machines for classification or final classification.

Fineness values to x97 < 3μm at high throughputs can be achieved. The product line comprises a total of five models, meaning that there is a suitable machine for every requirement.

"There are many different application areas in the minerals sector for air classifiers. With the TTD classifier head, we have succeeded in developing a high-performance and simultaneously cost- and resource-efficient solution," says Paul Woodward, Operations Director of the Minerals & Metals Division at Hosokawa Alpine’s process technology business segment.

The machine construction is correspondingly robust, says Hosakawa Alpine. The coarse material classifier is equipped, for example, with an air intake to permit additional product dispersion. Over and above this, the direct drive has a more powerful motor bearing. The robust classifier head makes not only reliable classification possible, but also operation in a particularly energy- and cost-efficient manner. The reasons: the classifying wheel is supported in bearings on both sides, the two fines discharges as well as the optimised feed product routing direct to the classifying wheel.

The flexible design of the TTD classifier head makes it possible to top-mount it on a grinding chamber. This combination results in the TDG jet mill. With this combination, extremely high fineness values are possible which cannot be achieved with conventional jet mills. Mineral powders, for example, can be ground to a fineness of d50 = 0.5 - 1μm.

In addition, Hosokawa Alpine will present the ACP 1250 – a low-energy classifier for the production of fillers in the fineness range of x97 = 8-45μm. Up to now, the amount of energy that the classifier requires in the case of classifier mills is around 30 to 40 per cent. The ACP 1250 reduces the specific energy consumption by a quarter, claims Hosokawa Alpine.

The ACP 1250 is designed to achieve medium fineness values and high throughputs and is suitable for use in a closed circuit with ball mills or as a high-performance final classification unit. At an air flow rate of 60,000m3/h, the classifier exhibits a significantly reduced pressure drop of 36mbar.
