Re: oxy-firing combustion

Dear Mr Shau,

Is there any cement plant in India/ Asia started using Oxy combustion / enrich technique? Could you please tell in short how is it working and what do we get benifitted economically.

Can this work with conventional Cement Kiln process?

Regards

Re: oxy-firing combustion

Dear Mr.R.P.Soni,

Oxygen enrichment has been used on more than 20 cement kilns in USA and some Russian plants but no european cement companies not yet known to use the technique yet as far as in my knowledge. The other industries are using  Oxygen enrichment, like glass and steel industries. In India Cherapunji cement works of Assam and ACC Madukarai semi dry process cement plant have used the technique but they are using on continuous basis or not I don't know. The technique may be applied in both dry process and wet process kilns. However, there is expense involved and there must be a good market for additional prodction to justify the additional operating cost.

Re: oxy-firing combustion

Oxygen enrichment involcves raising the oxygen content of the combustion air drawn into the kiln by typically 2%. It is used to boost the clinker output as the nitrogen ballast in the air is reduced relieving additional capacity n the induced draft fan of the kiln. The amount of oxygen reqired depends on the capacity of the kiln. Each 1000 tpd of clinker capacity requires about 45 tonnes per day of oxygen.

Oxy-combustion involves complete replacement of the combustion air with oxygen, so no nitrogen ballast is drawn into the kiln. The exhaust gas becomes a mixture of CO2 and H2O. This makes it much easier to capture the CO2. No-one has done it yet and there are lots of process implications. It would only happen if the cost of CO2 emissions becomes very high.

Re: oxy-firing combustion

Dear Mr. Clark,

Thank you for useful informations.

Could you please tell that how you determined oxygen requirement is about 45 tpd for 1.000 tpd clinker production about oxygen enriched air?
