Ball Size and %

Dear All,

Is there any method to decide which size of grinding ball and their proportional % required for one specific grinding mill?

Kind Regards,

Re: Ball Size and %

Dear Dastgir,

Usually during installation, companies give a size and % proportion of balls for the mill. You can find from instructional manual of the mill. However, this can change according to the material you are grinding. For example, for a cement mill with two chambers, in the first chamber you have to have an average ball size of 75-80 mm. For second chamber 18-30 mm. Those numbers are average values taken from 300 mills.

At the second chamber the ball average size depends on the whether the first chamber works efficiently or not? If you see too much of the nibs at the second chamber than you have to use a certain amount of 40-50 mm balls at the second chamber in order to crush those nibs. In such a condition you have to check the first chamber!!

Also axial sample analysis of the mill can guide you to decide on the balls' % proportion.

best regards,
