Suitable temperature for cement storage in silo and also for better roto packer performance

Dear sir,

Please let me Know the Suitable temperature for cement storage in silo and also for better roto packer performance as we are facing silo extraction and frequent nozzle jamming of roto packer in line -2 where cement grinding is being done Verticle mill and mill outlet temperature is being maintained arroud 85-90 deg cent.

Also requested to tell me the effect of temperature and moisture content in cement on flowability and packer performance

Re: Suitable temperature for cement storage in silo and also for better roto packer performance

  • If the silos are not cleaned periodically, the extraction of cement problem is inevitable.
  • Normally, vibrating screens are provided before taking cement to roto packer.
  • Silo venting system would help in removing the moisture and reducing the formation of cement lumps inside the silo which creates obstruction to smooth cement flow.
  • Air slide cloths also needs replacement as their pores get clogged and aeration air do not penetrate to get the cement slide effect.
  • Blower with a dryer helps in removing atmospheric moisture before it enters for cement extraction purpose.
  • Cement temp. should not exceed 120 deg.centigrade and air temp.should be above due point; mill outlet duct, bag filters may be insulated with suitable materials
  • Proper slopes should be made inside the silo for cement flow.
  • Identify the locations where the cement is observed in set condition and provision of air blasters and their periodical operation should be ensured.

Dear Menaria,

As you have mentioned jamming problem in roto packer, you have to keep in mind that at nozzle filling point, note Temp of cement and it should be about almost 10 - 12 Deg C above dew point. You can calculate dew point of your plant as it varies with atmospheric conditions. Further more if you are using water spray then try to minimimize water spray in cement mill keeping in contact with QC deptt. Hope this will help you.

Have a nice day.
