Soil near Lafarge plant under scrutiny, NY

Concerned about pollution at the Lafarge cement plant in Ravena, New York State Wildlife Pathologist Dr Ward Stone will collect soil samples near the site and test plant and animal life for mercury and 20 other contaminants.

The pathologist will begin with soil samples and then analyse leaves, grass, bark and small mammals such as mice, which are particularly informative about localised data because they do not travel over a large area, he said.
