Industry leaders have called on the government to send samples of low-grade cement from China to a laboratory in Singapore to ensure that quality tests are objective.

Salvador Valbuena, Subdivision and Housing Developers Association-Southern Mindanao Chapter president, said samples of the "Horse" brand cement imported here recently should be sent to a Singapore laboratory for examination to confirm if it passes international standards.

Mr. Valbuena made the comment after his group and others received reports that the second test on the cement product showed that it passed even when the original results showed it was below standards. "[If the report that the cement product passed the examination is true], it is contrary to logic," Mr. Valbuena said, explaining that cement usually deteriorates over time because of moisture that results in impurities.
