Nepal Maoists abduct workers
23 June 2004

Maoists have abducted at least 140 workers of Udaypur [southeastern Nepal] Cement Factory Tuesday. According to our Udaypur correspondent, a group of over 50 Maoists abducted the workers from a quarry of Udaypur Cement Factory - country’s largest cement factory - at Jalajale at around 9.30 this morning [local time].  The workers were abducted while they were getting ready to start their works at the site. Maoists are believed to have taken the workers to make them participate in Maoists-aligned workers’ campaign in the district.  Earlier, Maoists had abducted 600 students and 500 teachers from Udaypur District, who were later released after making them participate in Maoist campaign.
