UAE cement maker Gulf Cement Company, based in the emirate of Ras al-Khaimah, will invest between US$80m to build a clinker plant in Ras al-Khaimah, it was reported on May 25, 2004.  The company has signed a letter of intent with the German steel and engineering group ThyssenKrupp for the construction of the new plant, which will be built on the grounds of the company’s current plant.

The plant will have an annual capacity of 2.25Mt of clinker and is expected to be built within 22 months. Gulf Cement expects to finalise the deal for the plant’s construction in the coming four weeks. Currently the company has a production capacity of 1.3Mta
