Peter Orisich, the chairman of the Austrian Cement Industry Association (VÖZ), announced to the press Tuesday that the Austrian cement industry had increased its turnover by five per cent to EUR301m in 2003. He predicted a slight, albeit lower, increase in turnover in 2004. Production was stagnant, but the higher quality of what would be produced would result in higher prices. He added that the economic stimulus to be provided by EU enlargement and implementation of Austria’s national traffic plan would help the industry, assuming that it occurred as expected.
