Hundreds expected at tyre burning protest
06 May 2004

Hundreds of people are expected to join a protest march against the burning of tyres as an alternative to fossil fuels at Rugby’s new plant in the town of Rugby. Members of campaign groups Rugby In Plume and New Bilton Against Tyre Burning are organising the protest march, from Rugby town hall to Rugby Cement in Lawford Road, on May 23. The protest is being staged against a move to start burning tyres at the cement plant later this month. The march has been organised after protesters at Westbury in Shrop-shire staged a successful demonstration against plans to burn recycled liquid fuel in the kiln at their local cement works last month.
