Dangote opens grinding plant in Cameroon, Zimbabwe works on the cards

Dangote Cement Plc has inaugurated its 1.5Mta cement grinding plant in Douala, Cameroon. In addition, the company laid the foundation for a 200m terminal in Base Elf area, of the Douala Port.

President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said he company has decided to begin work on the second phase of the plant, which will see the doubling of its capacity to 3Mta.

Zimbabwe plans
The company has also indicated its intention to open a US$400m cement plant in Zimbabwe with a capacity of 1.5Mta. Aliko Dangote told local press during a visit to the country that once government approval has been received the plant will begin construction in the first quarter of 2016.

JP Morgan commented that the plant is likely to result in competition concerns for LafageHolcim, which operates a 0.4Mta plant in the market. "We note that Zimbabwe represents 0.1 per cent of the group’s total capacity," it said in a research note.
