Colombia market expands 1% YoY in Sep 2017

Domestic grey cement deliveries by Colombian cement producers in September 2017 reached 1.023Mt, up 0.8 per cent YoY and an improvement when compared the 11.2 per cent fall to 1.015Mt reported in September 2016, according to Colombia’s statistics office, DANE.

Cement production in Colombia reached 1,025,600t in September 2017. This represents a 0.2 per cent rise YoY from 1,023,600t in September 2016.

In terms of geographical distribution of deliveries, Nariño saw the largest increase at 36.9 per cent, followed by Huila (+22.7 per cent) and Magdalena (+15.8 per cent). Antioquia saw demand rise by 11.5 per cent and Caldas by 10.4 per cent. However, the key market of Bogotá noted a 4.6 per cent drop with larger decreases in demand reported in Tolima (-8.4 per cent, Casanare (-30.8 per cent) and Córdoba (-33.4 per cent).

Dispatches to ready-mix concrete companies fell by 6.2 per cent while construction companies and contractors reported a 3.2 per cent rise in offtake and the retail segment +2.6 per cent YoY.

In the 9M15, domestic dispatches fell 1.1 per cent when compared with deliveries made in 9M16. Production in the January-September period decreased 1.5 per cent YoY.

Ready-mix concrete companies saw their offtake fall by 5.7 per cent and construction companies and contractors by 3.3 per cent in 9M17 when compared to the equivalent period of the previous year. Cement producers saw an increase of 1.4 per cent to the retail segment.
