Fall in Venezuelan output persists as plant improvements suffer delay
25 May 2018

Cement production in Venezuela continues to decline with output at the Pertigalete plant of Venezolana de Cementos between 20-30 per cent of its total production capacity.

"Production is between 20 per cent and 30 per cent, because only Line 7 is operative, and its conditions are not the best," Luis Chaparro, general secretary of the cement and related products union, explained, adding that the plant generates considerable levels of dust and output is prioritised for delivery to projects related to the Great Housing Mission Venezuela (Gran Mision de Vivienda Venezuela) and the workers.

Venezuela’s National Executive has ordered a series of improvements. Some 53 days ago, Line 6 of the plant was shut down to carry out engineering work and improve the line’s filters and ESPs. However, the plant is still waiting for a 400,000t crane to install other necessary equipment. The stop was scheduled to be completed in 45 days. The work will help to reduce dust emissions as well as increase production. When completed, improvements will be made to Line 7.
