KapStone Paper and Packaging Corp said on Monday it struck a deal to buy Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging Inc for US$1.03bn in cash, in a move to bulk up its production of containerboard used in making cardboard boxes. Pakistan’s leading cement producer Lucky Cement has recorded a strong rise in profit for the first half of the current fiscal year, driven by higher selling prices. Profit for the first six months of FY12-13 rose 42.15 per cent rise to PKR4.29bn (US$44m). Semen Indonesia (formerly Gresik) has inaugurated a new packing plant in West Papua, Indonesia. Situated in Sorong and involving an investment of IDR162trn, the new terminal has a capacity of 2200 bags per hour with a cement bulk capacity of 120tpa.
