CEMEX has validated its 2030 decarbonisation goals through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for alignment under their new 1.5ºC scenario, the most ambitious pathway defined for the industry.  The company now has 2030 scope 1 goals  of 47 per cent less of CO 2  per tonne of cementitious material than its 1990 baseline and 35 per cent less of carbon content in concrete. Jamaica-based Caribbean Cement Co Ltd has posted robust 3Q22 results with revenues for the quarter increasing by 12.7 per cent to JMD6.2bn (US$40.3m) from JMD5.5bn in the 3Q21. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico saw a 7.3 per cent YoY advance to 10.9Mt in August 2022, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Fiona sends Puerto Rican cement sales down

Hurricane Fiona has sent Puerto Rican cement sales in a downward spiral as sales in September 2022 dropped by 21.1 per cent YoY to 986,000 bags of 94lb, or 42,041t, the largest fall since 2020, according to Sin Comillas. Domestic cement production declined 17.5 per cent YoY to 509,900 bags, or 21,741t in September 2022. The decrease represents the first fall in six months.

GCC posts 18% hike in 3Q net profit

GCC reported an 11.8 per cent YoY increase in sales to US$352.8m in the July-September 2022 period from US$315.4m in the year-ago period. EBITDA in the 3Q22 advanced by 6.6 per cent YoY to US$117.4m. CEMEX affiliate signs Mexican recycling agreement

Through its affiliate Pro Ambiente, CEMEX will work with Tetra Pak and the government of the Mexican city of Querétaro to recycle over 1.5m beverage cartons per month. Pro Ambiente, through its Broquers Ambiental facility, processes nearly all the municipal waste generated in Querétaro, recycling approximately 4500tpm of solid residue.
