Cherat Cement plans to invest PKR12bn (US$121.5m) in expanding capacity at its Pakhtunkhwa works, according to a company official. Pakistan-based producer Cherat Cement posted a profit after tax of PKR710m (US$6.74m) in the six months to the end of December 2013. This translates into a rise of 17 per cent YoY despite a drop in exports. On a quarterly basis, the company recorded a profit of PKR437m compared to PKR339m in the corresponding period of last year. The Pakistan cement industry is likely to post a MoM drop of 13 per cent of total dispatches in January 2014 as winter affected both domestic and export shipments, which were down by 13 per cent and 12 per cent, respectively. Pakistan-based producer Cherat Cement posted a rise in net profit to PKR436.8m for the fiscal year ended 30 June 2012 (FY12) from PKR68.851m, according to reports in the Pakistan Observer. Earnings per share rose to PKR4.57 in the period compared to PKR0.72. Turnover rose to PKR5.45bn in FY12 compared to PKR4.24bn in FY11 while the cost of sales increased to PKR4.30bn against PKR3.68bn.
