Mixed results for Chilean producers

Two of Chile’s top cement producers have reported mixed results for the first quarter of 2012. Cementos Bío Bío (CBB) posted a net loss of CLP408m (US$787,000) in the first quarter, compared with a net profit of CLP204m in 1Q11. The results were due to non-operational charges related to foreign exchange effects, the firm said in a research note. Chile’s per capita demand advances

Per capita consumption of cement in Chile is reaching the levels noted before the 2008 economic crisis and is equated with those of developed countries, according to data released by the MG Penta Consulting Group. In 2010 the figure reached 246kg per capita in the country, and it is estimated that by 2011 this number is approaching 300kg, exceeding the peak experienced in 2008, when it was 290kg.
