Briones sisters sell Bío Bío stake to Gloria Group

Anita and Loreto Briones Goich of ALB SpA have sold their entire 19 per cent stake in Cementos Bío Bío, the cement company founded by their father, Hernán Briones Gorostiaga in 1957. The shares were sold for approximately US$46.8m to the Peruvian Gloria Group. Cementos Bío Bío includes CBB, Inacesa, Ready Mix and Inacal and has a presence in Chile, Argentina and Peru. Chilean cement market contracts 14% in 6M20

Cement dispatches in Chile fell 15.4 per cent YoY in May 2020 to 291,781t from 345,001t in May 2019, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). In June the market continued to contract, with sales down 26.9 per cent YoY to 213,502t from 291,979t in June 2019. In the first six months of 2020 demand in the South American country declined 13.7 per cent YoY to 1,781,388t from 2,065,205t in the 6M19.

Chilean cement demand down 23% in April

Cement consumption in Chile contracted by 22.9 per cent YoY to 268,319t in April 2020 from 348,151t in April 2019, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. In the January-April 2020 period, demand for cement in the South American country declined 10.7 per cent YoY to 1,276,105t. In the 4M19, 1,428,225t of cement was sold on the domestic market.

After remaining largely stable at 332,905t  in February 2020 when compared with February 2019, Chile’s cement market contracted by 13.6 per cent YoY in March to 344,098t from 398,132t in March 2019, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction and Cement (CChC). In the first quarter of 2020, dispatches were down 6.7 per cent YoY to 1,007,786t from 1,080,074t in the 1Q19.

Cemento Melón to sell concrete products business

Cemento Melón has announced it will divest its concrete products business and has signed an agreement with Grau SA to sell 49 per cent of its concrete prefabrication shares. Chilean cement market contracts 2% in 1M20

Cement dispatches in Chile slipped two per cent YoY in January 2020. Deliveries fell to 331,783t in the first month of the year from 350,122t in January 2019, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. Dispatches in 2019 rose 2.2 per cent YoY to 4,081,896t when compared with 3,992,501t in 2018.

Chilean cement dispatches fell by 8.3 per cent YoY to 338,720t in December 2019 from 369,291t in December 2018, according to the Chilean cement and construction chamber, ChCC. MoM there was a much more modest drop of 0.9 per cent. Deliveries in the full-year of 2019 edged up 2.2 per cent to 4,081,896t when compared with full-year volumes of 3,992,501t in 2018.

Cement demand in Chile declined 2.5 per cent YoY in November 2019, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. Consumption fell to 341,721t in November 2019 from 350,532t in the previous year. However, in the year to date the domestic cement market expanded by 3.3 per cent from 3.624Mt in the 11M18 to 3.743Mt in the 11M19.

Chilean cement demand declines 8% in October

Chile’s cement market contracted by eight per cent in October 2019 to 337,959t from 367,167t in October 2018, according to the Chilean construction chamber (CChC). However, MoM demand advanced 8.6 per cent from 311,328t in September 2019. In the first 10 months of 2019 cement consumption advanced 3.9 per cent from 3.273Mt in 10M18 to 3.401Mt.

Chilean deliveries down 1% in September, up 5% in 9M19

Chilean cement dispatches declined 1.4 per cent YoY to 311,328t in September 2019 when compared with a volume of 307,015t delivered in September 2018, according to the Chilean Construction Chamber (CChC). When compared with August 2019, dispatches were down 15.7 per cent. In the first nine months of 2019, total dispatches increased 5.1 per cent from 3.948Mt in the 9M18 to 4.15Mt in the 9M19.
