Chilean dispatches up 20% YoY in March

Chilean cement producers dispatched 398,132t of cement in March 2019, up 20 per cent from 331,802t in February 2019, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). When compared with 360,803t in March 2019, the YoY increase was 10.3 per cent.  In the first quarter of 2019, dispatches reached 1,080,074t, representing a rise of 7.4 per cent YoY. In the 1Q18, deliveries stood at 1,005,324t.

Chile’s CBB lays out investment plan

Cbb (formerly known as Cementos Bío Bío) has inaugurated its new 0.2Mta cement plant in Arica, northern Chile in the presence of Chile’s Minister of Economy, José Ramón Valente. Chilean cement sales up 8% in January

Cement sales in Chile, excluding imports, advanced by 7.6 per cent to 350,122t in January 2019 when compared to January 2018. In January 2018 sales by domestic producers reached 325,288t, according to the Chilean Chamber of Cement and Concrete (CChC).

Chilean cement demand edges up in December 2018

Cement consumption in Chile increased 2.8 per cent from 359,116t in December 2017 to 369,291t in December 2018, according to the Chilean Chamber of Cement and Concrete (CCHC). In terms of full-year 2018, domestic demand remained largely stable at 3.993Mt in 2018 when compared with 3.995Mt reported in 2017. Consumption levels in December, as in May, June, August and October, increased YoY, helped to offset a poorer performance in the other months.

Cementos Mélon reports profit up 9% in 2018

Cementos Mélon saw an 8.9 per cent increase in profits to CLP9.067bn (US$13.7m) in 2018 but EBITDA fell 2.9 per cent to CLP28.572bn. The fall was attributed to lower sales of cement and concrete as well as a rise in raw material costs.  The Chile-based cement producer reported a 4.5 per cent rise to CLP191.347bn from CLP193.014m in 2017.

Cementos Bio Bio announces new plant in Peru

Chile's Cementos Bio Bio has announced that it will invest approximately US$20m in the construction of a new grinding plant at the Port of Matarani in southern Peru. The plant's cement capacity is initially expected to reach 200,000tpa, however this could be doubled in a second stage of development. Chilean cement producer Cemento Polpaico, in which the Hurtado Vicuña family holds the controlling stake, has reported net losses of CLP2.139bn (US$3.2m) in 2018, exacerbating net losses of CLP1.043bn m noted the previous year. The company revenues increased 23.1 per cent YoY to CLP166.549bn in 2018 from CLP135.326bn in 2017. Chile's Colbun to supply renewable power to Polpaico

Cemento Polpaico SA (Chile) has signed a long-term renewable power supply contract with local power company Colbun. Through the agreement, Colbun will supply a total of 183GWh of renewable electricity per year to Polpaico. The contract, will run for a term of 10 years starting from January 1, 2019. Cementos Melón to invest in new capacity

Chile-based Cementos Melón has announced that it will open a new cement facility in Punta Arenas in the first half of 2020. The first stage of construction will see an investment of US$30m, with an expected capacity of 0.5Mta.
