Cementos Bio Bio announces new plant in Peru

Chile's Cementos Bio Bio has announced that it will invest approximately US$20m in the construction of a new grinding plant at the Port of Matarani in southern Peru. The plant's cement capacity is initially expected to reach 200,000tpa, however this could be doubled in a second stage of development. Chilean cement producer Cemento Polpaico, in which the Hurtado Vicuña family holds the controlling stake, has reported net losses of CLP2.139bn (US$3.2m) in 2018, exacerbating net losses of CLP1.043bn m noted the previous year. Chile's Colbun to supply renewable power to Polpaico

Cemento Polpaico SA (Chile) has signed a long-term renewable power supply contract with local power company Colbun. Through the agreement, Colbun will supply a total of 183GWh of renewable electricity per year to Polpaico. The contract, will run for a term of 10 years starting from January 1, 2019. Cementos Melón to invest in new capacity

Chile-based Cementos Melón has announced that it will open a new cement facility in Punta Arenas in the first half of 2020. The first stage of construction will see an investment of US$30m, with an expected capacity of 0.5Mta. Cement deliveries in Chile fell 7.5 per cent YoY and 10.8 per cent MoM to 307,015t in September 2018, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CCHC). In September 2017 dispatches reached 331,753t while in August 2018 around 344,084t were delivered by Chilean cement producers.

Chilean cement producer Cemento Polpaico reported a 32.2 per cent increase in revenues to CLP82.114bn (US$120,143m) in 1H18 from CLP62.118bn.
