A dust cloud which leaked from from Hanson Cement at Padeswood - formerly Castle Cement - in Flintshire, UK is being investigated by the Environment Agency. The leak was reported by residents in Penyffordd, near Mold on Thursday, according to a news report from the BBC Wales. One man said the leak had covered everything in the village and he was unable to wash the "opaque layer" of dust from his car. Cemex is set to enter a partnership with the Waste Recycling Group (WRG) in Northampton to produce Climafuel, an alternative fuel derived from waste for cement making. Cemex UK, the building materials provider, now has 20% of its cement pallets returned under a retrieval scheme launched a year ago. The scheme was the first of its kind in the cement industry and aimed to recover as many as possible of the 250,000 Cemex pallets distributed annually to about 600 different builders merchant outlets. The state Division of Air Quality is extending the comment period for the public to voice its opinion on Titan America’s draft air permit for a cement plant in Castle Hayne. The period has been extended from October 30th to November 20th. The state issued a draft air permit for the project last month. Two more public meetings are scheduled for October 20th. Cemex Inc announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected it to develop technology for capturing and storing carbon dioxide emissions at one of Cemexs’ US cement plants. Tarmac has signed what it claims is an "industry first" UK£3.5m deal to buy discounted wind energy directly from the producer and sell it back to its retailer, npower, which will then credit Tarmac’s account.
