Holcim's No. 2 shareholder reportedly plans to vote against Lafarge merger

Eurocement Holding AG, the second-largest shareholder in Holcim Ltd, plans to vote against the Swiss company's merger with Lafarge SA unless the financial terms of the deal are altered, according to a person familiar with situation. Mikhailovcement Jan-Sept output up 20.2% YoY

Mikhailovcement, part of the Eurocement group, produced 1.21Mt of cement in January-September 2014, up 20.2 per cent on the comparative period of last year. The Mikhailovcement plant, situated in the Ryazan region, produced 281,350t of  CEM I 42.5H (+65.6 per cent) and 981,620t of clinker (+17 per cent) during the period. A total of 1.234Mt were shipped to customers, up +21.1 per cent YoY.

The Supreme Economic Court of Uzbekistan has received an appeal from Eurocement Group on the court's decision to annul the privatisation of Ahangarancement, in which the Russian producer holds a majority stake. On 21 July 2014, the Uzbek court declared Eurocement's 2006 privatisation of the cement plant invalid. In the first half of 2014, Eurocement Group shipped over 450,000t of  PC 500-D0-N grade cement, 24 per cent higher than the previous year. Russian cement major Eurocement is facing the loss of its facility in Uzbekistan in a nationalisation drive by the central Asian country. Eurocement Group and Sberbank of Russia have signed a cooperation agreement to secure funding for the construction of new plants in Russia. Russia: Lipetskcement output continues upward trend

Lipetskcement, part of Eurocement group, has continued its steady growth trend with clinker and cement output up by 46 and 13.7 per cent YoY, respectively in January 2014. In the first month of the year the company produced 105,500t of clinker and 37,500t of cement. Production of CEM II A/S and 32.5N and CEM I 32.5N increased by 28.5 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively. Bagged cement production rose by 40.3 per cent.
