Heidelberg Materials UK has opened a new recycling hub at its Appleford depot in Oxfordshire, UK. It is the first of several planned this year as part of the company’s strategy to conserve natural materials and promote the circular economy. Holcim (Deutschland) AG held a ground-breaking ceremony on 22 April for its climate-neutral cement plant in the Steinburg district of Lägerdorf, Germany. Gloomy outlook for Germany's cement industry

The 2024 outlook for the German cement market is gloomy. According to the German Building Materials Association, Bundesverband Baustoffe, production of building materials contracted 15.3 per cent YoY in the first two months of 2024, adding to the 16.7 per cent YoY contraction recorded in 2023. Heidelberg Materials Italy ( Italcementi ) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with OX2, Europe’s leading producer of renewable energy. The PPA covers the supply of an average of 36.6-51.2GWh of clean energy over a seven-year period from 2025-2032.
