Kenya: UltraTech in the race to buy stake in ARM?

UltraTech Cement is said to be eyeing a controlling stake in ARM Cement of Kenya, a Nairobi-based newspaper reported.
 According to the report, the Indian cement producer UltraTech Cement is in the race to acquire a controlling stake in Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed ARM Cement, in which it could buy convertible preference shares of up to US$125m (KES12.7bn). ARM announced 23 December it is in talks with an unidentified institutional investor about a US$125m investment.

Emami Cement Ltd has placed an order for a Gebr Pfeiffer grinding plant which will be installed in Odisha state, India. The contract includes an MVR 6000 C-6 with an installed drive power of 6700kW. The average cement price in India declined by 7.3 per cent YoY in December mainly due to weak demand, according to a report by Reliance Securities published in the Economic Times (India). Jaypee Cement has received the green approval for expansion of limestone mining capacity from 3.47Mta to 6Mta in Andhra Pradesh, entailing an investment of INR950m (US14.3m).
