Arabian Cement makes 2Q18 net loss of SAR50.9m

Arabian Cement Company (ACC) registered a net loss of SAR50.9m (US$13.5m) in the 2Q18 mainly due to reduced performance at its Qatrana Cement factory in Jordan. The company's net profits fell by 5.5 per cent in 2Q18 compared to 2Q17, while sales reached 0.533Mt in 2Q18 down 34 per cent YoY. Jordan’s five factories increased the price of cement to JOD74/t (US$104) from JOD38 on Sunday, according to The Jordan Times. Al Jouf Cement Company to export 72,000tpa to Jordan

Al Jouf Cement Company signed a sales and marketing contract with the Saudi Industrial Export Company (SIEC) on Sunday, according to a statement released on Tadawul. This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding back in October. The agreement will see 72,000tpa of cement exported to Jordan. The financial impact of this contract will be announced in 1Q18.

Lafarge Jordan tells staff to have three-month paid vacation

Lafarge Jordan (LafaregHolcim group) announced on Saturday that it was giving its workers at the Fuheis cement factory a three-month paid vacation to reduce costs.

 The paid vacation went into effect as of 2 March, according to Lafarge, which said in a statement that it guarantees full commitment to the financial and administrative rights of the cement factory workers during the paid leave.

Lafarge Cement Jordan posts JOD2.75m 3Q16 loss

Lafarge Cement Jordan posted a loss of JOD2.75m (US$3.9m) in the 3Q16 against profit of JOD8950 (US$12,600) in the same period in 2015, according to a filing of unaudited 3Qfinancial results to the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE). The cement firm also posted a loss of JOD4.53m in the first nine months of 2016 against a profit of JOD5.5m in the year-ago period. Nine-month sales fell seven per cent YoY to JOD69.5m from JOD74.7m.

Jordan: Northern Cement 2Q16 profits drop

Northern Cement Company have reported a 7.6 per cent decline in profits to JOD3.79m (US$5.4m) for the second quarter of 2016, compared to profits on JOD4.1m  seen in the same period last year. Profits for the first half of the year also fell, dropping 8.71 per cent YoY. Profits for the first half of 2016 were JOD6.8m compared to JOD7.4m in the first half of 2015.

Jordan cement demand at 4Mta in 2015

Jordan’s consumption of cement declined to 4Mt in 2015, down by 300,000t from a year earlier due to weaker construction activities and government projects, the head of the Future Society for Cement Traders, Mohammed Ghazi Abu Soufa, said. Northern Cement Co nine-month net profit drops, Jordan

Northern Cement Company posted a drop of 22.7 per cent in its nine-month profit, as it slipped to JOD10.9m (US$15.3m) this year, down from JOD14.1m ($19.8) last year. In 1H15, the Amman-listed company’s profits fell into 24.15 per cent decline, reaching JOD7.42m (US$10.4m).
