LafargeHolcim Maroc Afrique has launched construction of a new 0.5Mta plant in the Cameroonian locality of Nomayos, near Yaoundé. The new project required a total investment of EUR42.6m (US$45.7m). LafargeHolcim subsidiary Bamburi Cement earned KES5.89bn (US$57.4m) in after tax profits in 2016, up just 0.3 per cent on the previous year, reports the Star newspaper. LafargeHolcim saw its net profit double on an annual basis to CHF1.9bn for 2016 (US$1.87bn), against CHF970m a year earlier. LafargeHolcim interested in supply US-Mexican border wall

LafargeHolcim has expressed an interest in supplying construction materials to the US-Mexican border wall to be built under the Trump administration. The wall is one of the most controversial electoral promises of the new US president, Donald Trump. The invitation to tender requires interested parties to submit a prototype by 10 March. The US government plans to award prototypes as early as mid-April.

The Indian subsidiary ACC Ltd reported a 2.7 per cent reduction in cement deliveries for 2016 to 22.99Mt, while in the fourth quarter the reduction was 9.1 per cent to 5.45m, slightly less than the 9.6 per cent to 5.07Mt seen in the third quarter. According to several local news sources, approximately 100 firefighters worked to extinguish a conveyor belt fire at LafargeHolcim’s cement plant in Hagerstown, USA. It is unclear in which part of the facility the conveyor belt caught fire. No injuries resulted from the fire.
