The 1Mta clinker line constructed by China Triumph International Engineering Co for China United Cement Co was ignited according to schedule on 10 June 2016. The step indicates that the project enters a stage of regular production despite challenge faced by the construction team. Extreme cold and blizzards hindered the building of the production line while labour shortages and restricted work visa added further issues.

The Mongolian cabinet has approved the draft agreement on investment for Khokh Tsav cement-lime plant and authorised the Minister of Industry, D Erdenebat, to sign the agreement. A newly-opened greenfield cement plant is set to boost Mongolia’s domestic supply of building materials at a time when the country is looking to stimulate new investment and construction. The greenfield MonCement cement plant was fully commissioned and opened on 14 August 2015, in Urgun Sum of Dornogovi Aimag, Mongolia The new 1Mta plant was opened by Prime Minister Ch Saikhanbileg, MP J Batsuuri, governor of Dornogovi Aimag P.Gankhuyag, deputy Minister of Construction and Urban Development, G Baigalmaa, and other officials. MonCement is a US$250m funded project by Monpolymet Group, the Development Bank of Mongolia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Mongolia: Senj Sant receives EBRD loan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has signed a deal to loan Senj Sant US$65m for a new greenfield cement plant in southern Mongolia, about 450km from the capital Ulaanbaatar. Khutul Cement and Lime's newly-expanded cement plant has been officially inaugurated in the presence of Norovyn Altankhuyag, Prime Minister of Mongolia.
